Management Team

The Senior Management team comprises of the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Financial Controller and Personnel Manager.

Ken Vincin – Group General Manager

Joined Bindon Plantations Pty Ltd. Shell Distributors May 1975.  November 1975 Bindon was sold to Wamp Nga Group who then became the Shell Distributor for Mount Hagen.

Began work for Bindon as a Depot Clerk under the management of Col Martin, an ex Shell employee known in the area as “Mister Shell”.  Col retired soon after but not before he had imparted a solid grounding in the handling and distribution of fuel.  Upon Col’s retirement took over as Depot Manager.

Parents Don and Esma Vincin arrived in New Guinea in 1957 where father’s first posting was Wabag.  He worked there as a Medical Assistant where he was instrumental in opening the Wabag Hospital.  Among the staff was a young Tei Abel, later Sir Tei and a famous politician.  First schooling was done there in Wabag at a one teacher Primary A School.

Later childhood was spent at Kainantu and Minj before moving to Mount Hagen in 1962.  Parents continued to live and work in Mount Hagen and the children went off to Australia for secondary education.  Esma Vincin was a teacher and worked in each of the towns before taking up the position of Principal in Hagen.  She passed away in 1978 and is buried at Bomana.

This New Guinea upbringing contributed to a very strong feeling towards the country and people and hence the decision to return to work here in 1975.  Originally the intention was to have a short stay and return to Australia but as things turned out still here after 25 years.

The early years were an enjoyable mix of work and Rugby League with a suitable amount of social life.  Played six years of League playing for Magani in Mount Hagen and represented Mount Hagen and Highlands Zone.  There is not a moment’s regret over the time spent playing Rugby League and there is many a fond memory of people and places.  There were some very talented players, too many to mention, but names like Joe Temerop, David Tinamau, Steiner Sapu, Jack Metta, Seseve Turia, Dekot Koki, Steve Malum and Paul Kombinari come to mind.  In all the contacts made in those days are still very storing in business, politics and public life.

As Manager of the Groups Fuel Outlets, the Shell Distributorship and retail sites this part of the business expanded quite rapidly into Wabag and Mendi, then Goroka, Kundiawa and eventually Kainantu.  Wamp Nga now acts as the Shell Distributor to the PNG highlands.

Involved with the General Manager of the time, Dennis Brenan, in the establishment of Petrohaul, a highly efficient and successful dedicated fuel Cartage Company.  Petrohaul is a joint venture with Morobe Customs and Cartage.

In September 1990 was appointed as General Manager of the Wamp Nga Group and these last 10 years have been a challenging yet rewarding period.  The Group is performing strongly but this never comes easily and there is a need to continue to the growth and development so that it will continue to provide benefits to the Shareholders.
